7/21/2010 - 8:36pm Ian Scores Two T-Mobile Commercials So don't flip channels, mute your TV, or fast forward through your favorite shows you DVR'd. Again. Ian partnered with Dave Macarone to write and record the music for these spots. The first of which is airing on TV now. Of course, you can see it (it's been dubbed "School Bus") now by going here:
We're even more excited about the second one. We'll let you know when it hits the airwaves.
6/1/2010 - 10:05pm Ian McGlynn grabs a Heine. The beer. From Holland.
That's right fans and beer drinkers, Ian likes Heineken. And they like him. So much so that one of his songs is featured in a brand new commercial. Written with usual co-conspirators, Chris Newkirk and Dave Macarone, especially for this unique faux movie trailer, and performed by Ian and Dave, the spot is airing in cinemas NOW! You can see it in your local theater before the following films:
A Nightmare on Elm Street (Opened 4/30)
Macgruber (Opened 5/21)
Sex and the City 2 (Opened 5/27)
Get Him to the Greek (Opens 6/4)
Splice (Opens 6/4)
Maybe it goes to TV. Maybe it doesn't. Either way, Ian is thrilled to be a part of it. Special thanks to Tonefarmer (a super cool full service, NYC-based "power boutique" that generates original music and sound design for a variety of visual media) for the opportunity!
"See the light" and view the spot RIGHT NOW:
4/16/2010 - 10:05pm Digital Killed The Record Store Whatever damage video inflicted on the radio star, it hardly compares to what digital has done to the record store. We're not complaining exactly—after all, we love our blogs and mp3s as much as the next band—but we do very much miss the days of congregating at the record store and going through the bins. And this is our wistful spin on remembering. It's also our way of saying, Happy Record Store Day!
So, enjoy this little gift on this littlest of holidays. Pass it on if you like and keep the spirit alive.
1/1/2010 - 12:01am Happy New Year!!! Thanks to all my friends and fans...for all the love and support this past decade. Wishing everyone a healthy, peaceful and prosperous new year!
12/1/2009 - 11:12am Christmas Single: Listen to the Choir Sing There's something so solemnly sacred and magically nostalgic about Ian's Christmas offering, "Listen To The Choir Sing," that one can't help but imagine it featuring in both a midnight mass and A Charlie Brown Christmas. So if your Christmas wish is for Vince Guaraldi to rise from the dead and collaborate with Sigur Ros, well, you can finally put that dream to rest by listening, yes, to "Listen To The Choir Sing."
Ian's collaborators are all, not coincidentally, Christmas freaks. The sort of folk that are still tempted to wake up before the sun on Christmas morning. There's the song's co-writer, Chris Newkirk, whose holiday ritual revolves around the Animagic Rudolph special and It's A Wonderful Life; musician and co-producer John Mosloskie (of Holler, Wild Rose!), whose way around any carol or hymn has Ian wondering if he's some earthbound angel; and cover art creator Sarah Fuchsia, whose annual homemade Christmas cards and holiday mixes are staple here at Bailey Park Records.
So, listen to Ian (and John!) sing "Listen To The Choir Sing" on all the days that lead up to December 25th.
10/30/2009 - 4:13pm Ian scores another short for dwell.com Recently Ian was asked to score another 4-minute short for dwell.com by filmmaker Gary Nadeau. It's a lovely, lingering look at the unique home of husband-and-wife architecture team Yoshiko Sato and Michael Morris. Ian's gentle piano-playing beautifully captures the sparse, wonderful feel of it all. Check it out if you haven't yet already.
8/25/2009 - 4:43pm SUMMER OF IAN: We Should Hang In The Museum – Single #4 Ian's fourth and final single of 2009, "We Should Hang In The Museum," is a happy-go-lucky pop gem written especially for hand-holding and/or heavy petting. OK, that's not exactly true. Like his "Listening In" single, this one was written for the Meg Ryan/Antonio Banderas flick, My Mom's New Boyfriend. Only it wasn't used in the film. But it could easily grace the closing credits on the heels of any film's happy ending. If you thought that Ian's "How Did I Get Here?" hit was a bright, bouncy joy, well then, you're in for a treat.
7/28/2009 - 2:12pm SUMMER OF IAN: Listening In (From “My Mom’s New Boyfriend”) – Single #3 Commissioned especially for a Meg Ryan/Antonio Banderas feature, My Mom's New Boyfriend, by the film's producer, Ian and his songwriting partner set out to fashion a big, bittersweet pop gem about paranoia and obsession. Ultimately, it makes only a brief appearance in the film, but it leaves an unforgettable impression on listeners. Meaning, it's probably Ian's most accessible single yet.
This time, Swiss Auto Club’s John Bonaventura teamed up with Ian and Chris to make it as big as it is, playing on it, producing it and contributing to the writing of it. And after featuring wonderful original art by Australia’s Smitten By Stephanie and England’s Allison Moore on the last two singles, the cover art for “Listening In” comes straight from Nashville, thanks to the one and only Sarah Fuchsia.
7/25/2009 - 3:48pm Green Domain 30 second Commercial Spot Ian had the pleasure of working with Gary Nadeau again. They did a commercial together. Ian wrote the song with his good friend Dave Macarone and acted in it with his partner in crime Darling Cait.
7/10/2009 - 6:48pm All Music Guide Review The All Music Guide says “Indeed” to Ian’s new album “This Is The Sound”, giving it 4 out of 5 stars and calling it an AMG album pick! Click here to read the review.
6/23/2009 - 3:28pm SUMMER OF IAN: I Took An Oath – Single #2 A brief and bouncy soundtrack to the wide-eyed, innocent love of 9-year-old kids meeting—and falling in (something resembling) love—where their backyards touch. The chords offer a clever nod to the seventies, enhancing the nostalgia of it all. The only thing it's missing is a jar of fireflies.
“I Took An Oath” also features original artwork by Allison Moore, an American ex-pat living in England. She's also responsible for the original painting used in the cover of Ian's most recent full-length, “This Is The Sound”. This single was co-written with writing partner Chris Newkirk and features the prodigious talents of Holler, Wild Rose's John Mosloskie.
5/26/2009 - 4:48pm SUMMER OF IAN: Nowhere – Single #1 The long-awaited proper rendering of "Nowhere" is released years after a sparse version of this bittersweet, pop-laced ballad graced the closing credits of the Nick Nolte-starring indie flick, "Off The Black." Co-written with Chris Newkirk quite a while ago, the song really came to life when it was presented to Holler Wild Rose's John Mosloskie. His glorious touch is all over the damn thing. Ian's mom says he has rarely sounded sweeter.
5/14/2009 - 7:15pm Welcome to... THE SUMMER OF IAN!
Whether you're sunning yourself on the beach, backpacking your way across Europe or languishing at a loathsome job, Ian wants to keep you company. So much so that he will be releasing a single each month, readily available for you to download and rub all over your body like sunscreen (SPF 35).
The fun starts with the long-awaited proper rendering of "Nowhere" released years after a sparse version of this bittersweet ballad graced the closing credits of the Nick Nolte-starring indie flick, "Off The Black." Equal parts heartbreak and optimism, Ian has rarely sounded sweeter. It's yours on May 26 — the day after Memorial Day, the official onset of the summer season (we know you'll also be celebrating with Ian's song "Memorial Day Parade" on repeat at your barbecue).
So, that's the big news. Think of it as the aural equivalent of summer reading.
3/8/2009 - 10:19pm Rising Star Ian recently performed in Nashville as a “Rising Star” on the new show Legends & Lyrics.
Legends & Lyrics is distributed and presented by American Public Television. Ian will be appearing on public TV stations nationwide in September 2009.
